We step out to the dark night; our host gives us each a fire-lit torch. We walk a short distance through the forest to the
restaurant. The silent forest surrounds us as the line of lit torches makes its way through the darkness. We step inside the cosy restaurant set in the heart of the forest to enjoy a delicious dinner.
Just as dessert has been served, we see some lights pass by the windows outside… There is a knock on the door… The silence is broken by a shaman. He rushes in to see who is on his land! The Shaman has a drum and speaks in an ancient Kuusamo dialect. He falls into a trance before disappearing as fast as he appeared. What happened? Our host tells us the story of the Mightiest Shaman of the North, who used to live here. His grave was found by some local fishermen some time ago.

Call of the reindeer

This is a fantastic way to spend a day outdoors, get to see the wilderness of Kuusamo and also experience one of the main livelihoods of the area, reindeer herding. A part of the snowmobile safari trip goes on private routes, so there are hardly any other drivers on the route. Cruising in the snowy landscape is great fun and the snowmobiles are very easy to handle. On our way we will have a pick-nick lunch at a forest camp. In the midst of the forest you’ll meet a reindeer herder who tells you stories about the reindeer. He calls for his reindeer and soon up to a hundred reindeer will gather around us. They appear from the forest and are a bit shy, as they are wild animals. This is moment you will remember forever. After the encounter in the forest our journey will continue by snowmobiles.

Exploring Russian Carelia!

It is very easy to reach a completely different world from Kuusamo. Genuine Russia is only few hours’ drive away. You will meet another way of life, but the great peace of nature continues over the borderline. Crossing the border with snowmobiles. Snowmobile drive to Suvanto village, where we are invited for a tea brake at Topi´s home. After this nice encounter our drive continues to Pääjärvi settlement where we will overnight.

Meet the real fishermen of the village Sossonniemi. They fish from the lakes surrounding the village all year around and fish from their little fishing harbour is delivered to restaurants and shops. The main catch is vendace, the small and very tasty silversided fish which is typical for the area. In the summer time vendace is caught in large drag nets, which are pulled toghether by fishing boats. In wintertime the nets are set under the ice and pulled out by hand.

During the past few years the airport has developed to an important gateway between Europe and Asia. In the very close approximity of Helsinki Airport is the Aviation Museum that offers an exciting experience: airplane simulators.
We will test ourselves as pilots and be coached in the art of flying by professionals. We start with a theory lesson and after that you get to try your wings with a Messerschmitt BF-109G2 or a Piper Aztec.
Snacks and refreshments are served during the simulator program.

Competitiveness is healthy once in a while and it can also be a lot of fun. We start off all together on snowmobiles; our goal is Huilinki, a secret forest hideout. There it is time to experience something totally different than the motorized modes of transportation. Always happy and eager huskies will give us a little ride around. Let the excitement of the huskies catch on you and listen the gentle steps of paws on the snow while they run through the forest.

Before the end of the day we still need to find out who has the sharpest hand in the snowball fight. There is a special track and we will teach you how to throw and hit and yet not being hit by a snowball yourself. We gather for lunch at the cozy and rustic Forest Restaurant Huilinki where we are served a delicious soup by a special kota-hut style fireplace.


There is still one high-light for the day. On our way back by snowmobiles, we stop at the ice-karting tracks. The small and handy karting cars are equipped with stud tyres and will give us a whole new driving experience and a feeling of a real formula race. Who handles the steering wheel best on the icy track? We time the laps and the fastest karting driver is rewarded, even though the karting has been done in groups.

Savotta is a genuinely Finnish restaurant. The restaurant pays homage to the thousands of lumberjacks and log floaters, the matrons and foremen at the logging sites, and of course the mill owners. Restaurant Savotta takes you back 50 years in time to the logging camps of the old days. The old china designed by Arabia, the hundred-year-old floorboards, the chairs and tables and many old artifacts have been brought from all over Finland. Together they recreate the atmosphere of the hardworking men and women, telling stories around the campfire while they enjoy a hearty meal.

As the first findings of gold were made in Lapland in 1868, as famine raged our nation, hundreds of fortune seekers wandered off to the gold fields of the north. The real gold rush took place after the Second World War, in the 1940s when there were over one hundred gold claims in Lapland. Our gold rush was not as meaningful as its North American counterpart, but many legends were born, cheating and romance playing a big a role in the game.
Tonight we will meet a real gold digger, as is still plenty of gold in Lapland. The gold digger tells us about his passion, the gold and the legends. One of the most amazing legends is Petronella, the Dutch lady who amazed, fooled and thrilled the gold diggers of that time. We may just catch a glimpse of her tonight. Naturally, we try our luck in gold panning for real gold in the indoor stream.

Ice-disco – a party under the stars!

You arrive at the premises followed by the Polar Night, the mystical twilight of the North. The first spot of light you will see is the illuminated company logo on snow pillars. You are guided by torches and ice-lanterns... the host greets you and wishes you warmly welcome to the Polar Night. Then disco lights flash giving the feel of the Northern Lights descending from the skies, the music starts and the bar opens. It was all there hidden in the Polar Night.

Illuminated and decorated snow walls surround the dance floor, the bar is made of ice, and there are cosy hangout places with campfires. The drinks in the ice-bar are served hot!
The kota hut in the yard is a wine cottage and steaming hot soup is served outdoors. The Country House serves a delicious buffet throughout your party night. There is also one special guest at this party, you will all bump into him at one point or the other. Santa Claus has come to have a good time tonight!

The day continues in a quieter mode. We strap on the snowshoes and explore the forest in close up. Our guide tells about the seasons and nature of Lapland.

We start from the safari house with snowmobiles. In a short while we arrive to a world of formula in its winter settings. Ice karting offers you a totally new driving experience. Set in an outdoor ice track and driven by cars with stud tyres, it’s an activity where technical skill beats speed. Still, the icy track might give you a spin. Ice Karting Race has equal elements to a real formula race, but it takes place in an ice rink.
First there are warm-up laps, then a qualification which determines the starting grid places at the final.

Winter conditions require some thought, attention and attitude. Today we will learn different skills needed here in the harsh winter conditions. And of course we will have a lot of fun during the day! We arrive at a venue where many new challenges await us. First we split up in teams and then we head for the challenges.

Slippery driving conditions: when driving in wintry conditions, it is important to know how to steer a sliding vehicle and balance speed and control. We will not drive by cars on a road, no; we will drive with quad bikes on a snowy and icy track!

Curling: it is important to have fun and keep moving and not let the cold bite. The wintry conditions provide a perfect setting for many great winter sports, like curling! Today we will have the ultimate curling experience, as we get to do this sport outdoors and not in a boring hall.

Food supply: it is hard to get fresh food in the winter time as the ground and waterways are frozen. Already in the olden days we used to catch fish with nets form underneath the ice, this is how we could have fresh fish also in the wintertime. You will learn how to set the nets and what fish is possible to catch at this time of the year.

Building a shelter: In case you get lost in the arctic wilds, you must know how to build a shelter to keep you warm. Building an igloo is easy and fun – when you know how to do it and that is exactly what you will learn today.

Another country and a totally different culture is only a short while away from Kuusamo. Today we have a little peek over to the other side of the border, over to Russia. We start by snowmobiles from the safari house towards the border zone. At the border zone we will make a stop and have a look at the well guarded border. You could not imagine finding something like this here, in the middle of wilderness. The difference that the border represents is visible already here.

Lunch is served at idyllic Restaurant Klubi close to the border zone. The table is set according to Russian style and the menu introduces us to the Russian delicacies. The hosts will tell you about life on the border zone, now and in the past.

Russian Borderzone Adventure

We are invited for dinner at a restaurant by the Russian border; we have found the invitation cards in our rooms on the previous day. This very cosy and hideaway lodge is located only a few kilometres from the border between Russia and Finland, on the Finnish side. Or is it? The road gets smaller and smaller, can there really be a restaurant here? The coach stops… A Russian border guard steps inside. We have apparently crossed the border to Russia and are now asked to present visas and passports… After a little inspection the stern guard lets us pass and grants us 2 hrs time to stay in Russia. To be certain we don’t go astray, he follows us to the restaurant. In case we do not cross the border again within the given time, we are held back in Russia… (This is kept a secret to the group, at the restaurant the secret is revealed as the guard turns out to be a friendly Russian man living in Finland...)

Tonight a fantastic Russian Feast has been set for you, the tables are sagging under the loads of Russian inspired, homemade delicacies. The music and the atmosphere are also in the style of the menu – this one is truly “From Russia with Love”. Here at the border zone, there are many stories about border-crossers and you will definitely hear a few tonight.

Snow is Fun!

We arrive at Pohjolan Pirtti Country House where it is time to play in the snow! We will be starting with a snowshoe hike in the surroundings, to get familiar with moving around in snowy landscapes. When our muscles are warm we are sprat into teams and we head for a tobogganing-competition down the fierce slopes by the country house. You continue to search for arctic gemstones which are hidden in the area. And as last we have a team task with blind folds; you are to find your team or should we say herd by using the sounds of the animal given to you. After the program we gather to a Lappish hut for hot drinks and to share the good spirit. Lunch is served in the country house (10-50 persons) or as outdoor lunch. During the lunch the team with best spirit and most fun is announced.

To start with your guide gives you full instructions of snowshoe walking. The trail takes you through the snowy wonderland and while walking you can enjoy the real silence! Your guide can tell you the amazing facts of the arctic life in the nature in the winter time, and you can try to recognize the little foot prints on the snow. Believe it or not, there is a lot of life out there in the winter! We will be hiking the Little Bear’s trail or by Valtavaara, both locations offer extremely beautiful sceneries, let your eyes and mind rest and your arms and legs do the work!
Together with your guide, you will be preparing a delicious light lunch by a campfire. This is a fantastic nature experience!

We meet the mushers and huskies at the local husky farm. The huskies are eager to take off, barking and jumping, just like they would like to tell you to step into the sledge and let's go! Feel the lovely breeze of wind on your face and sit back comfortably while the huskies take you through the winter wonderland. We take off into the wilderness and after the excitement and barking at start, soon we travel very silently... Only the gentle steps of paws on snow are heard.

Winter driving in World Class (Juha Kankkunen Academy)

Full day program

Excitement, speed and expertise are encountering in Lapland. Brand new Volkswagen Golf R, front and four wheel drives will kick some speed to the day. Head instructor, Juha Kankkunen four-times Rally World Champion and other trainers who have a solid background in winter rally driving in national or international level (Harri Rovanperä, Harri Toivonen, Riku Tahko, Jani Yli-Pahkala, Kristian Sohlberg, Jouni Ampuja, Vesa Mikkola, Juha Repo etc..) will give you a lesson to remember.

The main target is to have a lot of fun but why not learn from the champions at the same time. The course content will be following:
- correct driving position
- 4 WD driving technique /ESP- driving technique
- correct use of modern safety equipment
- efficient use of brake assistance
- cornering, Power slide technique
- obstacle avoidance / emergency braking in high speeds (80-
100km / h)
- controlling over and under steering
- driving lines in race driving
- Michigan turns, hand brake turns
- race driving basics
- 360 turn in speed etc.

Winter rally in Everyman’s Class

Half day program

Speed and fun, a cool driving experience in the middle of arctic wilderness! The cars have tyres with studs and the track is icy, just like it should be in winter rally driving. There is a cosy Kota-hut by the tracks where you can have a nice hot drink in between the laps. The laps are timed and at the end of the race the winner is announced. The race can also be done in teams, each team member drives his / her lap and the time is counted for the team together.

The race takes 1 hr for app 10 persons. For bigger groups we recommend huskies or snowshoes as a second activity or to drive to the tracks by snowmobiles to avoid long waiting time. Lunch is a relaxing moment, we are seated comfortably at Restaurant Klubi and a lovely home cooked meal is served to the tables.
