For the ultimate fishing experience we recommend to book a local fishing guide for at least one day. With the guide you will get to the best fishing spots and have a lot of information on the area, the nature, the seasonal catch and also the everyday life here in Kuusamo Lapland.

All rivers in the area are well known trout rivers. Big brown trout rising from Russia and it is the most wanted catch in area and same time very hard to catch. Grayling and whitefish is also inhabitants of Kuusamo rivers, especially grayling is quite common and many guides can give you guarantee to catch one. For river fishing, our fishing guide transfers you by car to the best fishing spots. Night fishing – a wilderness experience

The nature is very still at night time and the northern summer nights are bright and luminous… Perfect for fishing! Be prepared for an all around wilderness experience as your guide picks you up at your accommodation around 18.00 in the evening. The campsite is by great fishing waters and the light dinner is being prepared by an open fire. A tent will provide shelter for the night and sleeping bags are keeping us warm, even if the summer night would get chilly. Thanks to the lightness, fishing is not limited by the dark hours, so in case you wish, you can fish all night. In the morning a breakfast is served and coffee is brewed by the open fire, before we return to your accommodation.

The estate has been in the possession of family Pohjola (the family name meaning North) for centuries and has served as a home and an inn for travelers. Matti Pohjola is the host and he greets you heartily to his previous home and is happy to tell the stories of his ancestors, how they came to live at this very location and how they made a living here in the north. "During this safari you get to feel the speed of the ATV and get to know the life of the reindeer farm. At the reindeer farm reindeer herder will teach you how to milk a reindeer and also you get lot of information about the life of the reindeer herder. Historic Pohjolan Pirtti used to be a guesthouse and inn where travellers stopped on their way between the west coast and Russia. Guests were served proper homemade food; the bread was baked in the huge oven - just as it is today. Taste local homemade food at its very best and admire the stunning countryside views. Riita-Mari's grandson Matti has preserved the recipes and cherished the traditions of Pohjolan Pirtti.

Fly fishing is probably the most exciting and valued method of recreational fishing. In hope of tight lines we cast the flies through the air into the fishing waters. Fly fishing requires a special technique, in order to get the light baits to fly through the air to the destined spots on the river or lake and lure a catch! We will take you fly fishing on either the rivers of Kuusamo or on the lakes surrounding Ollila Cottages.

River fishing - The best kept secrets of the famous Kitkajoki

Kitkajoki is one of the most famous rivers in Finland but for fishing it is quite a challenge. The best way to reach the best fishing areas is to take a rubber rafting boat and local fishing guide with you. Guide will tell you have to manage in the float and shows you the fishing spots. During the trip we will enjoy fish soup in Oulanka National Park. In total we reach a fishing area of 18 km and the rafting ends at the border zone to Russia.

According to your wishes and weather conditions, we head to the Välijärvi or Kylmäjärvi lakes with a guide who tells you about the local fishing waters and the inhabitants. With Fishing Rafts to the Fishnets

Learn about the history and development of the fishing village Sossoniemi and check the fishnets in lake Muojärvi in hope for a catch. Visit the campfire of Korkeasaari where we offer hot juice and pancakes. The caught fish is prepared and cooked for tasting. There is also a possibility to include meal in a Lappish hut to the program.
